Talking politics

This ESL lesson plan introduces students to the differences between left-wing and right-wing politics. Students will learn related vocabulary, participate in a warm-up discussion, fill in the gaps with target vocabulary, watch a video on the history of left-wing and right-wing politics and write a political speech from either a left-wing or right-wing perspective. The lesson plan also includes popular collocations related to the topic and a quiz to determine students’ political views.

Note: It is important to note that the topic of politics can be sensitive and controversial. Therefore, it is recommended that this lesson be taught with subtlety and diplomacy to avoid offending any students. Encourage students to share their opinions and ideas in a respectful manner and remind them that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and values!
